A Follower Visa is a bit different from other visas and is often for the spouses or children of retirees or expats working in Thailand. Essentially, if you plan to live in Thailand for an extended period (one year or more), your spouse and children can follow you.
Here are the key points:
Children must usually be under 20 years old to apply for a Follower Visa. There’s no age limit for spouses.
Normally, this visa works best for long-term stays. If it’s just for vacations or short visits, your spouse and children can usually get regular short-term visas.
Required Documents
- Passport or travel document with at least 6 months of validity.
- Completed visa application form.
- Two recent color photos of the applicant (3.5 x 4.5 cm) with a white or blue background, taken within the last 6 months.
- A letter from the company or school in Thailand, addressed to the Royal Thai Embassy, Tel Aviv, confirming that the applicant is the spouse or family member of someone working or studying in Thailand.
- Copies of the passport pages of the person working or studying in Thailand, including the personal data page and Thai visa page.
- Copy of the Thai Work Permit or Student ID.
- For spouses, a copy of the marriage certificate, and for parents, a copy of the birth certificate.
Usually, the visa lasts for 3 months with a single entry, allowing you to stay in Thailand for up to 90 days initially. If needed, you can extend your stay at the Immigration Bureau, possibly for up to one year from your first entry into Thailand.
Certain nationalities may have to apply for a visa at specific Thai Embassies or Consulates in their home country or residence. Make sure to check with the nearest Thai Embassy or Consulate before you travel for visa application instructions.
