Overview
The Non-Immigrant ED visa is used for eligible study and approved educational activities in Thailand. These may include university courses, school programs, language study and certain other approved training. Requirements depend on the type of program and institution.
Who can apply
- The applicant must have acceptance or enrollment in an eligible program.
- The school or institution may need to provide letters and other approvals required by Thai authorities.
- Regular attendance and compliance with course and immigration conditions may be required.
- An ED visa is not a general permission to work in Thailand.
Financial requirements
- There is no single financial threshold applicable to every ED applicant; financial or sponsorship evidence depends on the embassy, type of study and applicant's circumstances.
- Tuition fees and other school charges are separate from visa fees.
Visa validity and permission to stay
A single-entry ED visa is commonly valid for use within three months and may permit an initial stay of up to 90 days. Longer study does not automatically mean an uninterrupted one-year stay: qualifying extensions require Immigration approval.
Typical supporting documents
- Passport, recent photograph and visa application.
- School or university acceptance letter and course details.
- Approvals or confirmation documents from the educational institution and authorities where required.
- Previous academic records, financial support evidence or parental documents when applicable.
Application process
Confirm that the school and course qualify for the appropriate ED route, collect the institution's supporting documents, then apply through the responsible Thai embassy or consulate. Extensions, if available, are handled under Immigration requirements.
