Overview
The Non-Immigrant B category covers several business and work-related purposes. A visitor attending meetings or exploring business opportunities is not necessarily in the same position as someone employed by a Thai company. The required visa documents and work authorization depend on the activity.
Who can apply
- Business visitors normally need supporting information from the Thai organization or business partner.
- Employment applicants usually require documentation from the employer and appropriate labour approval or work-permit evidence.
- Different requirements may apply to teachers, trainees, BOI-supported businesses and other activities.
Financial requirements
- There is no single universal bank-balance rule for every Non-B application. Consulates may require evidence of available funds based on the purpose and visa type.
- Company capitalization, Thai staffing, work permits and extension eligibility require separate assessment where relevant.
Visa validity and permission to stay
Visa validity and permission to stay vary. A single-entry Non-B visa commonly permits an initial stay of up to 90 days. Qualifying applicants may seek an extension from Thai Immigration. Holding a Non-B visa does not automatically replace the obligation to obtain an appropriate work permit or other required work authorization.
Typical supporting documents
- Passport, photograph, evidence of current location and financial evidence as required by the consulate.
- Employer letter, business invitation or employment contract according to purpose.
- Thai company registration, tax or business documentation where required.
- Applicable Ministry of Labour approval, work permit or other qualifying evidence for employment.
- Professional or educational credentials where required for the position.
Application process
Identify whether the visitor is attending business meetings, taking employment, teaching, or participating in another qualifying activity. Prepare the matching employer or host documents and submit to the responsible embassy or consulate. Work-permit and extension procedures are separate steps where required.
